Parker Vintage Lady Duofold Fountain Pen & Pencil Set in Chinese Red in good condition.
This stylish and classic Parker vintage pen and pencil were made in America around 1928, specifically for the female customer.
The Duofold range was very popular and this pen, the “Lady Duofold” was similar to the Junior model but with a ring top rather than a clip. It is in a colour they termed “Chinese Red”. It has a broad 12ct gold plated cap band and a Chatelaine ring. It was designed to be hung around the neck by a ribbon or chain and, of course, the same could be done today. Equally it could be carried on a handbag keyring or simply used as a desk pen. It is a small, slim pen measuring 116mm with cap on and 145mm with cap on barrel end.
The strong barrel imprint reads “Geo S. Parker Fountain Pen – Lady Duofold – Janesville – Lucky Curve – WIS - USA PAT 4-25-11”.
It has a fine to medium point Parker Duofold nib. Its condition is good with only minor age wear. This vintage pen is a button filler which means that you unscrew a blind cap at the end of the barrel to reveal a button which you press to expel the air in the sac and depress to allow the ink to enter – a clean and efficient filling method.
The matching pencil also has a ring top. You will note the corresponding black edging design on pencil and pen. It is a rotary pencil which means you rotate the cap to expel and repel the lead. Originally it would have had a rubber underneath the pencil blind cap but this has long since been used. It can be refilled with 1.2mm Yard-O-Led replacement leads (a few included here). The text on the barrel of the pencil reads “Parker Duofold U.S.A.”.
An added bonus is the Parker hard top box. The cream lining provides a pleasing backdrop to the “Chinese Red” and it carries the Parker branding inside the lid. The green exterior has some wear and some ink staining on the rear but overall, with its satisfying snap shut clasp, it is a worthy carrier of these vintage classics. Suitable to add to a collection or to use as everyday writers. Serviced and bench tested prior to offering for sale.
